Is it a baby hummingbird? A cute, fuzzy bug? A flying miniature lobster? SCROLL DOWN FOR THE ANSWER o_O
ANSWER: At first glance this cute and busy little critter looks like a baby hummingbird. Look at how he moves! But after further investigation I discovered this bird is a bug impostor! See the antennae and proboscis? He (or she) is a Hummingbird Clearwing Moth (Hemaris Thysbe). Yup, a diurnal moth. Cheeky little bugger!!! And much cuter than a mosquito!

God is very strange. Just to think, he sat up with his glasses on and probably bed head and created all of these creatures. Good grief.
thats a chicken
According to the University of Kentucky’s website, this is a “Clear-winged Sphinx moth”. People tend to confuse it with hummingbirds because like humming birds, they move their wings very rapidly. However, if you pay attention to these moths, you will notice four distinct differences. First, clear-winged moths don’t have a rapid body movement as hummingbirds do. Secondly, if you will look at the top of the insect in this video, you will notice two antennae. Hummingbirds DO NOT have antennas! Next, notice the thread-like legs hanging below the moth. Hummingbirds generally tuck their two legs away during flight and are hardly noticeable. Lastly, these moths are generally only about 1/3 the size of hummingbirds! I have flowers and feeders around my home and have seen this moth as well as hummingbirds! aaaplusman1@yahoo.com

Hummingbirds are near adult size by the time they leave the nest.
Interestingly, the hummingbird moth is the adult form of the destructive Tomato Hornworm – a very large caterpillar, much-feared by tomato growers and gardeners alike.
