In this episode, you’ll learn how to easily prepare and juice prickly pear cactus fruit for succulent Margarita cocktails (like this Prickly Pear Margarita) or for other delicious beverages.
Prickly Pear Cacti (Opuntia Ficus-Indica), are native to the Western Hemisphere and are abundantly found in the Southwest United States as well as central and western Mexico. Prickly pear fruit is often called cactus figs, Indian figs as well as tunas. They come in three colors; white (or greenish), yellow and red. If you’re a fan of watermelon, juicy pears and or honeydew you’ll love the taste of prickly pear fruit. And like their name, the outside of the skin is extremely prickly. So be sure to handle the outer fruit with care!
Not only does fresh prickly pear cactus juice taste delicious its also a beverage with benefits. It’s an excellent source of vitamins and minerals like Vitamin C, Magnesium, Calcium and hydration regulating Potassium. According to scientific researchers at Tulane Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, prickly pear extract may help alleviate and prevent certain hangover symptoms when taken hours before drinking alcoholic beverages.

OMG! MRC in the shower! Thanks for showing what prickly pears are used for, I have seen them in the market, but never knew what to do with them.
@nezpercenathan Hahaha. I use them for margaritas. And if you ever head down to a fancy Mexican spa resort you’ll find what they call “Green Juice”. It’s made from green prickly pears, pineapple juice and celery juice (from what I remember) and is freakin’ delicious!
Tangy, Tasty and Wonderful in every way possible. Oh and that’s a good looking drink to (Of Course I’m talking about You in that first line Michelle)
@Nightshift10000 Never thought of myself as Tangy and Tasty. However, hopefully not to be confused with antiquated Tang.
Those prickly pears looks so juicy and messy, let me lick your fingers lol >:9
@RioXavier Be careful of the prickers!!!!
Wonderful like it
@rehanabbas7 Thank ya!
These are the red nochtlis, do ya all also have the green or white nochtlis? The skins are green,….i find they’re more sweeter than the red nochtlis,…wow CONGRATS on peelin’ the nochtli and not gettin’ pricked,…them spines are small, but they’re MEAN!
@qualqui Yup, they ARE mean little prickers. I prefer the green (or white) prickly pears bc they are sweeter and the seeds aren’t as obnoxious as in the red ones. But I’ve only had the pleasure of enjoying the green ones while in Mexico. Have yet to try the yellows.
you are like margaret thatcher….only hot and not british
@chrispollock It must be bc Maggie and I almost share the same bday.
Mmmmm she makes everything look delicious. Imaging sipping this juice from her lips>
@klard That’s kinda gross. You better hope I don’t burp it up.
